The Poet Ruminates

Meet Me at The Water Witch!

Marc Thomas at the Water Witch Tiki Bar

It's a damp and chilly Sunday, and it will not be drier tomorrow, but I still am looking forward to the warm company and stimulating poetry at the Poetry Co-Op Open Mic tomorrow at the Water Witch Tiki Bar.

Need to get some good words in before the St. Patrick's Day break.

As usual, sign in begins at 6:30, and Poetry begins around 7:00.

HAIKU IN THE PARK - March 8, 2025

Beau Frail and Marc Thomas at the Artists Market in Forsyth Park on March 8, 2025

It was a beautiful, but breezy day in Forsyth Park. The St. Patrick's themes were starting to predominate in advance of the big weekend to come.

Our friend Beau Frail dropped by while Margo and were setting up. He designed and made the "Haiku in the Park with Marc" sign. Margo and I enjoyed coffee and pastries from the park cafe before the crowds started up.

The artists mostly set up early, and the crowds did come. You could hear multiple languages from the strollers walking by. I talked to people from Ireland, Canada, Columbia, India, Turkey, and many others who did not say where they were from.

I prepared this week with creating QR codes for both book donations, and to answer the question - where did you get that dragon? Both worked well.

The other artists surrounding me were all good neighbors. I enjoyed talking to many of them, especially Maxx Feist, Thomas Rider, Sammy Esterline, Thomas Kezenske, Alex Wilkinson, Lauren Fleisher, Kiera, Pearl, and Vintage Mo.

It was a very good day. I went home tired, but happy.

MANY POETS NIGHT AT TONGUE: OPEN MOUTH AND MUSIC SHOW

Had a great time last night at the Tongue: Open Mouth and Music Show open mic at the Sentient Bean coffee house.

Bigger crowd than usual for Savannah's oldest open mic, and FIVE, count them, FIVE poets reading among the other performers of music, comedy and fiction readings.

I didn't catch the names of all the poets, but a shout out to Wheelz (Robert Cohen), Lucy Barry, and Bea.

Also a shout to our host for the night, Duncan Sligh, for calling out other local open mics and encouraging folks to seek them out. Savannah needs its own central directory of the growing number of open mics!

Hope to see y'all at the next open mic, March 18th.

You can come and watch them (or join them) at the Poetry Co-Op Open Mic at the Water Witch Tiki Bar on Monday: sign up at 6:30, and readings starting at 7:00.

Good Time at the Tongue Open Mic at the Sentient Bean

There was a good show last night at Tongue: Open Mouth and Music Show at the Sentient Bean. There were several poets besides myself, notably "Wheelz" (Robert E. Cohen) and Beau Frail. Unfortunately, I had to leave early in Socio's music set, which I regretted missing. Brendan Townend and Duncan Sligh did their usual manic and entertaining job of almost keeping things on course. Maybe I'll see you all there March 4 now that the cancellation curse is lifted.
